In April of 2000, Vicente Leite de Faria went on his own, thus ensuring continuity of tradition for a family of wine producers from the Douro Valley. With years of responsibility directing wine programs for the most established wineries in Northern Portugal, Vicente was well prepared to blend this experience with his family’s tradition for farming grapes and producing wine.

Bordeaux trained and well traveled in consuming world markets, Vicente is adept to the changes in preferences of consumers worldwide. He also knows that Douro grapes can be used to make table wines of distinction but also with bright fruit for contemporary times.

animus is indeed this type of wine. Produced from indigenous Portuguese grape varieties long used to make the finest ports, grapes were selected from carefully chosen parcels of vineyards with high potential “terroirs”, setting the standard for high quality Douro wines.

It’s no wonder that Vicente called this wine Animus, Latin for soul. It represents the people who have labored the craggy hills of the Douro for over two thousand years and a nation’s past endurance of long seafaring voyages.

2005 Animus Red is a vineyard blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca.
